Shoemaker Speaker Series debuts with leading technology entrepreneur
Influential Indiana-based entrepreneur Chris Baggott will be the featured guest for the debut presentation of Hanover College’s Shoemaker Speaker Series.
Considered one of the top U.S. technology entrepreneurs, Baggott has been the driving force and creative mind behind numerous business innovations through the past two decades. His revolutionary creations, highlighted by ExactTarget, Compendium Software and ClusterTruck, have altered standard industry practices and made a global impact on connectivity, marketability and profitability.
Baggott, a database and email marketing expert, author and businessman, will speak on Hanover’s campus at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 12, in the Science Center. John Riddick, professor and executive director of the Hanover College Business Scholars Program, will serve as host for the conversation. Admission is open to the public, free of charge. A pre-event cocktail reception will be held from 6:30-7 p.m.
Baggott currently serves as chief executive officer of ClusterTruck, which he co-founded in 2015. The software-driven, delivery-only restaurant concept provides a wide-ranging menu of cooked-to-order meals, prepared in strategically located kitchens to promote freshness and timeliness. The Indiana-based company, which has expanded to greater Indianapolis, Ind., Kansas City, Mo., and Columbus, Ohio, entered into a limited in-store preparation partnership with The Kroger Co. in 2020.
In 2011, Baggott turned to agribusiness with the creation of Tyner Pond Farm. He continues to work as chief executive officer for the protein brand, which operates multiple organic farms in Hancock County, Ind. The operation focuses on growing, processing and marketing sustainably raised, antibiotic-free beef, pork, chicken, turkey and lamb.
Baggott was co-founder of Compendium Software. The company, launched in 2007 and acquired by Oracle in 2013, specialized in content marketing and enhanced online search, blogging and social media efforts across multiple platforms.
From 2001-06, Baggott served as co-founder and chief marketing officer of ExactTarget. The company developed automation and analytics software for email, mobile, social and online marketing. In 2013, ExactTarget was acquired by Salesforce for $2.5 billion and later renamed to Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
The Shoemaker Speaker Series, part of Hanover’s expanding entrepreneurial network, was established to feature prominent voices on business, leadership and innovation. The program is made possible through the generosity of John Shoemaker ’64 and his wife, Donna. Shoemaker has more than four decades of experience in high technology, including executive management roles at Sun Microsystems and Xerox Corporation. He is currently the chairman of the board at Extreme Networks and has also served as a board member for numerous companies such as Altera Inc., SonicWall Inc., Astute Technologies, Inc., and Conformative Systems, Inc.
