"Hanover itself does have a history; it was founded by John Finley Crowe, a Presbyterian minister. This was supposed to be a training ground for theological studies. He was also an abolitionist, very anti-slavery, and was run out of Kentucky for that purpose. And our dedication now to service and social justice reflects that legacy. The fact that we have an LGBTQ center and we want to be welcoming and inclusive reflects that legacy. Even if we’re not articulating it in strictly religious terms, those are things that come out of a faith conviction. And I think it’s important to highlight that whenever we have the opportunity to do so. It’s about finding that history and letting it exist; and letting students know we’re here to help you and explore together."
