From MTV, Broadway and “American Idol” to Hanover College, multi-talented performer Todrick Hall will bring his high-energy stage show to Collier Arena at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, as part of the Hanover Enrichment Series.
Hall, a YouTube sensation and star of MTV’s “Todrick,” will take the audience on a unique journey through “Todrick Hall: Behind the Curtain.” The dynamic performance entertains while delivering a perspective on what it means to embrace individuality and diversity, overcome obstacles and produce work that inspires others.
General admission tickets for “Todrick Hall: Behind the Curtain” are available online now. Seats cost just $15 each for adults, while tickets for children high-school age and younger (18-) are free.
It has been a busy year for Hall, who released his third studio album, “Forbidden,” in early 2018 and has been on tour in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
The ambitious effort follows the successful 2016 release of “Straight Outta Oz,” a visual concept album (and related original musical about growing up gay in Texas and finding showbiz success), which showcases Hall’s talent as singer, dancer, choreographer and inspirational personality.
The “Straight Outta Oz” tour featured initial dates in the U.S. and Canada, but was suspended for four months while Hall starred on Broadway as Lola, a drag queen cabaret performer, in “Kinky Boots.” The tour resumed in 2017 with shows in North America, Europe and Australia.
Hall landed a role in Broadway’s “The Color Purple” at just nine years of age. He worked in musical theatre for years before appearing on “American Idol” in 2010. After an elimination in the semifinals, the experience ignited a passion to succeed in the industry – on his own terms.
He gained a huge following on social media through lavish productions of original songs, music videos, collaborations with performers (such as Pentatonix) and even personal updates. His YouTube channel has nearly three million subscribers and his videos have totaled more than 530 million views.
His current weekly show, “Todrick,” airs each Monday on MTV. The docu-series gives fans a glimpse at Hall and his collaborators as they create his wildly popular weekly videos.
The MTV program follows the 2014 release of his eight-episode web series, “Pop Star High,” which served as a parody of high-school comedies and imagines the top pop stars attending the same school.
In addition to his current work on MTV, Hall previously appeared on the eighth season of “RuPaul's Drag Race” as a guest judge during a “Wizard of Oz”-inspired challenge. He later returned as a full-time judge for “RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars 2” and the program’s ninth season in 2017.
In August 2017, Hall made a cameo appearance as a back-up dancer in Taylor Swift's music video for the song, “Look What You Made Me Do.” He returned to Broadway in late 2017 and early 2018, portraying Billy Flynn during a limited-engagement role in “Chicago.”
That winter, he released the documentary “Behind the Curtain,” which chronicles the effort to make “Straight Outta Oz” a reality. The film, previously screened in New York and Dallas, is available online.
The Hanover Enrichment Series is presented by Tricia and Will Hagenah, with additional support from the McManaman Trust and German American Bank.
