Hanover College President Lake Lambert has announced the appointment of Rachel Schmidtke as executive director of admission. She will begin her role at the College May 15.
Schmidtke comes to Hanover after more than six years of service at DePauw University, where she has been director of recruitment since July 2016.
As recruitment director, she has guided a 12-member staff while overseeing counseling, campus visits and events. She has successfully worked to increase DePauw’s diversity and maintain academic quality. In addition, she has been a member of the university’s Presidential Advisory, Housing Master Plan, Faculty Admission, Alumni Admission and Incoming Transition Team committees.
Prior to her leadership role, Schmidtke served as DePauw’s senior associate director of admission from July 2014-July 2016. She was associate director and regional counselor for Cincinnati, Ohio, and Indianapolis, Ind., from Sept. 2012-July 2014.
In those roles, she developed and coordinated recruiting strategies for the university’s primary recruitment territory, while increasing yield from the regions while reviewing more than 600 applications annually. She also assisted in the development of on-campus admission events, facilitated guidance counselor meetings in each territory and participated in numerous high-school panels.
Preceding her stint at DePauw, she served as assistant director of admission and admission counselor at Saint Mary’s College from July 2004-Sept. 2012.
Schmidtke is an active member of the Indiana Association of College Admission Counseling (IACAC), National Association of College Admission Counseling and Great Lakes Colleges Association. She has been a member of IACAC’s educational calendar committee since 2010 and was committee chair and executive board member of the association from 2014-17.
She is a 2004 graduate of Saint Mary’s, where she majored in music performance with a minor in Italian.
