Robyn Ryle is a full professor in the departments of sociology and gender studies. She attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., for her undergraduate degrees in sociology and English with a concentration in women’s studies. She received her doctorate in sociology from Indiana University-Bloomington and is originally from northern Kentucky. Her nonfiction book about gender as a chooseable adventure is forthcoming from Sourcebooks in March 2019. She also has a sociology of gender textbook, Questioning Gender: A Sociological Exploration (SAGE Press), currently in its third edition. She frequently speaks on topics related to place and gender for national audiences.

In her spare time, she likes to knit, bake, and generally enjoy small town life. Ryle currently lives in a 170-year-old house in scenic Madison, Ind., with her husband Jeff, stepdaughter, Grace, and two rather peculiar cats.
