Biography

Mike Floyd is in his third season on the staff with Jon Miller, his former college coach. He came to Hanover following three seasons as the top assistant coach at Piedmont College, an NCAA Division III school in Demorest, Ga., and a stellar playing career at conference-rival Defiance College.

In three seasons at Piedmont, Floyd was responsible for academic monitoring, recruiting, scouting, strength and conditioning, and the program’s community service efforts. He joined Piedmont's staff prior to the 2012-13 season and helped jump-start the team's resurgence through recruiting and mentoring. The revamped squad eventually earned a 3.41 grade-point average and posted a 13-win improvement from his first to third season on the bench – including a victory over No. 6 Emory University. In addition, several of his players earned individual USA South Conference honors, including the league's rookie of the year award.

Before his time at Piedmont, Floyd spent two years coaching high school basketball in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio, as an assistant coach at Ottawa Hills High School. During his time, the team won back-to-back conference championships.

Prior to entering coaching, Floyd enjoyed an outstanding career as a player at Defiance. A four-time all-Heartland Conference selection as a point guard, he led his teams to a 77-32 overall record, including an outright HCAC regular-season championship and an HCAC tournament championship. In 2010, he led his team to an overall record of 23-6 and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Statistically, Floyd left his mark on the record books at Defiance, finishing second on the career assist list with more than 500 in his career. He led the HCAC in assists in each of his four seasons and finished in the top 25 nationally as both a junior and senior.

Floyd prepped at St. John’s High School in Toledo, Ohio. A three-sport athlete, he competed in basketball, football and track. During his time at St. John’s, he helped the football team to a state semifinal appearance and the basketball team to two appearances in the state championships.

Floyd is single and resides in Madison, Ind.
