John Jones enters his 13th year on the sidelines for the Panthers and first as head coach. Coach Jones, popularly called “Jonesy” on campus, takes over for former head coach Molly Jones (Hanover, 1986). Molly Jones retired as the winningest female coach in school history with a career record of 405-296, including a 271-175 record in 17 seasons at Hanover.
Due to his tenure on the Panther bench, Jones expects a seamless transition. Building on the foundation that he and Molly Jones established together and continuing the up-tempo style of offense should lead to success in the future.
Jonesy has surrounded himself with an excellent core of assistant coaches. Chris Hitchcock (Hanover, 1997) has previous collegiate head coaching experience and will serve as the recruiting coordinator. Jones’ second assistant Devin Brierly (Butler, 2012 ) was an outstanding athlete at Southwestern (Hanover) High School and played four years at Butler University where she was twice team defensive MVP and led the team in points, free throws, and assists as a senior. Devin is the social media director for the program.
A former player at Marian College (Ind.), Jones has collected more than 15 years experience as a teacher, coach and administrator at the secondary and collegiate levels. Jones has a dual role at Hanover, also serving as associate athletic director. Prior to joining the Hanover athletic department staff, he served three years as athletic director at Southwestern High School in Hanover. He graduated from Marian in 1991.
Coach Molly Jones will continue to work with the team conducting individual workouts as well as serving as the academic advisor for the team.
The Joneses reside in Hanover and have three children; Kelsey (Hanover, 2015), Tyler and Coleman.
