John Jones enters his 15th year on the sidelines for the Panthers and third as head coach. Jones took over for his wife and former head coach, Molly Jones (Hanover, 1986), at the beginning of the 2015-16 season.
A former player at Marian College (Ind.), Jones also collected more than 15 years experience as a teacher, coach and administrator at the secondary and collegiate levels. He also has a dual role at Hanover, serving as associate athletic director.
Prior to joining the Hanover athletic department staff, he served three years as athletic director at Southwestern High School in Hanover. He graduated from Marian in 1991.
Jones surrounds himself with an excellent core of assistant coaches. Chris Hitchcock (Hanover, 1997) has previous collegiate head-coaching experience and will serve as the recruiting coordinator. Jones’ second assistant is Kala-Jewel Freeman, who is beginning her first year with the Hanover women's basketball program in 2017-18. In addition, Molly Jones will continue to work with the team, conducting individual workouts as well as serving as the academic advisor for the team.
Molly Jones retired as the winningest female coach in school history with a career record of 405-296, including a 271-175 record in 17 seasons at Hanover.
The Joneses reside in Hanover and have three children; Kelsey (Hanover, 2015), Tyler and Coleman.
