Commencement 50-Year March

Barbara Lindsey Bergdolt, Dennis Wilson, Emily McKeand Campbell, Emileann Howard Vargo

Members from the Class of 1967, it's your turn. You are invited to return to campus on May 27, 2017 for your 50 Year March.

HISTORY
In 2012, Hanover College began a tradition of inviting its alumni to march at Commencement on the 50th anniversary of their graduation, wearing caps and gowns, to lead the graduating class onto The Point.

As you know, Commencement Day at Hanover College is a time of great pageantry and rejoicing, much of it representing traditions that are centuries old. On this day, all graduates gather and show the true legacy of Hanover College and its contributions to each person's life. Four years of college experiences are celebrated in one ceremony and memories will be preserved for a lifetime.

Schedule

10:00 a.m. Baccalaureate

Access to the Horner Center and Collier Arena is thru the front doors on the East side of the building. Closest parking to the Horner Center will likely be behind Wiley Hall and in the lawn to the northwest of the building. Drop off for guests is best accomplished in the parking lot behind Wiley Hall nearest the front doors of the Horner Center. Seating is first come, first served in Collier Arena and no tickets are needed for Baccalaureate.

11:00 a.m. Brunch

You (and your guest) will join President Lambert and other special guests for brunch in the Faculty Dining Room in the Campus Center. Closest parking will be in the lots behind the Faculty Office Building (the old Phi Delt House) and to the north of the Science Center. Behind the Library and near the Ad Building will also provide proximity to the Campus Center. (The Ad Building parking lots are a good bet as they are near Classic Hall, and will allow you to avoid traffic congestion if you are planning to leave campus soon after the ceremony).

Robing: Following Brunch, please report to Classic Hall Room 116. Your regalia (cap and gown) will be located in Room 116 in Classic Hall. You will be able to leave extra layers of clothing in Classic 116 during the Commencement ceremony, but please leave valuables with your guest or locked in your car as Classic 116 will be unattended during the ceremony. After robing, you will line up on the south side of Classic Hall at 1:00 p.m. and follow the Faculty Marshals onto The Point when the processional begins at 1:30 p.m.. During robing, the Class of 1967’s designated guests who will not be marching the procession should go to the reserved 50 Year Reunion Seating to the left of the stage on The Point.

Attire: While the Horner Center, Campus Center, and Classic Hall are all air conditioned, an outdoor commencement ceremony is expected to be very warm. Dressy attire is not expected for this event. We recommend that you do not wear a suit coat, jacket, or heels for the ceremony. What you wear under your robe is up to you, so please dress comfortably for the march and the weather conditions!

1:30 p.m. Commencement ceremony

As graduates, the Class of 1967 will process onto The Point with the tassel on the left of the cap where it will remain for the duration of the ceremony. The Processional will begin at 1:30 p.m. and you will be lead by the Faculty Marshals onto The Point. At the stage, they will direct your class to continue to the left of the stage to the 50 Year Reunion Seating where there will be chairs and programs for everyone in the procession and your designated guest. The Class of 2017 will have 250 graduates! Following the ceremony: Please return to Classic 116 to check in and drop off your cap and gown (HC will be fined if we don’t return your regalia).

inclement weather

If the Commencement Ceremony is moved into Horner Center due to inclement weather, seating for the Class of 1967 and guests will be reserved on the Home (East) side of Collier Arena. The Robing Room will be Horner Center 104, and procession and ceremony will be performed as planned if it had been held outside.

If needed, Disability Access is thru the front doors of Horner Center. The elevator in the Horner Center Lobby descends to the Horner Center floor level. Seating for Baccalaureate, and if there is an indoor Commencement ceremony due to inclement weather, is on the east side of Collier Arena. Ushers will help direct guests upon entering Horner Center.

Parking

Parking and travel by vehicle around campus will be very limited between 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Commencement Day. No Saturday traffic will be permitted around The Point or anywhere east of the cross-campus road running between the Campus Center and the Administration Building. Good parking options near Class of 1967 events are near the Ad Building, behind Wiley Hall, behind the Library, or in the Horner Center parking area.
