Panthers trek to Maryville for first road game of 2017

James Cochran and Antoine Baldon celebrate after tackle

HANOVER, Ind. -- The Hanover football team will hit the road this weekend for the first of two straight games away from home, as they travel to Maryville (Tenn.) for a 1 p.m. kickoff Saturday, Sept. 9.

  • Hanover and Maryville will be squaring off for the second consecutive season, with HC making its way to MC for the first time since the early 1960’s.
  • Last time the Panthers and Scots met was in 2016, in Hanover, with MC taking the victory after two weather delays.
  • Hanover has dropped all three contests to Maryville in the all-time series history.
  • Dating back to the 2016 season, the Panthers have won three of their last five games overall.
  • Both HC and MC will be looking for victory No. 1 of the new season, as the Panthers fell to Centre at home last week, 27-14, and the Scots lost to Berry (Ga.), 30-24.
  • Freshman linebacker, Kyle Treber, made 20 total tackles in his Hanover debut last week, becoming the first Panther in nearly two years to do so.
  • Overall, four Panthers recorded double-digit tackles versus Centre, with Zach Dauer (11), Isaac Rowan (10) and Layne Harnishfeger (10) joining Treber with 10-plus stops.
  • Rowan logged his first career interception last week, also taking it back for the game’s first touchdown.
  • Senior quarterback Chase Lightfoot tallied the offense’s lone touchdown with a one-yard rushing score. He also threw for 200 yards in the contest.
  • Sophomore receiver Taylor Bleistein set a new career high with 90 receiving yards last week. Bleistein has three or more catches in six straight games.
