Goodwin gives women's golf back-to-back HCAC Player of the Week winners
GREENWOOD, Ind. – After winning her first collegiate tournament over the weekend, sophomore Allison Goodwin (Lebanon, Ind.) of the Hanover women’s golf team has been announced as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Goodwin is earning her first HCAC Player of the Week honor, and is the second Panther in as many weeks to earn the weekly award from the conference. Classmate Maddie Cody (Brownsburg, Ind.) earned recognition last week after finishing as the medalist at the Olivet (Mich.) Labor Day Classic.
The sophomore took the top individual spot this past weekend in the home Hanover Invitational, logging a two-day score of 159, which set a new 36-hole, personal best mark. In Saturday’s round at Sunrise Golf Course, fueled by three birdies, she set a new career low with a 78. Sunday’s 81 at Shadowood Golf Course was good enough to hold off individuals from Manchester and IU-Kokomo by one stroke.
Overall, Goodwin led the field with five birdies after adding a pair during Sunday’s round. Her par four scoring average of 4.17 was also good enough to lead the field of 68 golfers this weekend.
Hanover won the team championship as well, earning the title at its home invitational for the third time in four years. The Panthers logged a two-round score of 657 (322-335), beating Rose-Hulman by six strokes.
Goodwin’s victory came in tournament that featured over 40 HCAC golfers from five conference institutions.
On the year, Goodwin has a season scoring average of 81.50. She is also one of only two Hanover golfers to have a pair of top 10 finishes this fall.
The Panthers will compete for the third straight weekend this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16 and 17, as they travel to compete in the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic.
