Women’s tennis rolls to 9-0 win against Earlham in HCAC-opener

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Hanover women’s tennis team posted a strong showing in its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference-opener as the Panthers defeated Earlham 9-0 Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Hanover improves to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC, while Earlham falls to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. Since the Quakers entered the HCAC in 2010, the Panthers have now won all eight contests, including the last five by a 9-0 score.

Hanover dropped only three games total in the three doubles matches. Senior Alana Feeley (Colchester, Vt.) and sophomore Caroline Millard (Cincinnati, Ohio) opened the day with an 8-1 win at number one doubles. Feeley then won 6-2, 6-1 at number five singles, while Millard won 6-0, 6-0 at number six singles.

Junior Susan Winternheimer (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore Meghan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.) followed at number two doubles with an 8-2 win, with Winterheimer winning 6-2, 6-0 at number three singles, and Farrell 6-0, 6-0 at number two singles.

Sophomore Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.) and freshman Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.) combined to win 8-0 to cap three doubles wins. In singles play, Parker won 6-2, 6-1 at number four singles, and Jones earned a win at number one singles with scores of 6-1, 6-1.

The win also extends Hanover’s regular season winning streak over conference opponents to 34 dating back to the 2012-13 school year.

The Panthers will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 17 for their home-opener with a non-conference contest against Bellarmine. Start time is set for 11 a.m. in Hanover, Ind. at the Zeddies Tennis Center.\
