SEASON STATISTICS

GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the second straight week, a Hanover men’s soccer player was recognized by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference as freshman goalkeeper Will Bedel (Walton, Ky.) was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week for matches played September 11-17.

Bedel posted 135:00 of scoreless action in a pair of Panther wins at the Wilmington Kiwanis Classic in Wilmington, Ohio over the weekend.

The first-year keeper played 45 shutout minutes in a 7-0 win against Cincinnati-Clermont (Ohio) Friday, and then returned Saturday to record his first career-shutout victory in a 1-0 win over Wittenberg (Ohio).

The shutouts were the first of the season for Hanover, which improved to 5-2-0 overall. Bedel, now 4-1 on the year, has allowed only 0.80 goals per game and has made 19 saves in 23 chances.

Bedel’s honor comes one week after junior Tanner Korfhagen (Cincinnati, Ohio) was named the conference’s top offensive player. He’s also the first freshman to be recognized since sophomore Chris Brashear (Hebron, Ky.) was named player of the week last fall.

The Panthers will look for their fourth straight win Sunday, Sept. 24 when they travel to Louisville, Ky. to play Spalding (Ky.) Start time is set for 4 p.m. at Champions Trace.
