Hubbard wins second heptathlon meet of the outdoor season

HILLSDALE, Mich. – Winning her second heptathlon of the 2017 outdoor season, Savannah Hubbard (Madison, Ind.) of the Hanover women’s track and field team, posted a cumulative score of 4,105 points Wednesday and Thursday at the Hillsdale Last Chance Classic.

With the win, Hubbard now has a victory at NCAA Division II hosted Heptathlon and Pentathlon meets, while also winning a NCAA Division I heptathlon meet this season. Her total this week moves her into the top 35 nationally.

Recording 2,488 points in the first four events on Day One, the senior ranked third in the field of nine athletes, predominately from NCAA Division II institutions. She proceeded to post 1,617 points over the final three events Thursday to jump up to the top spot, outlasting Tiffin’s (Ohio) Deborah Brodersen by just 59 points.

Hubbard opened the seven-leg competition with a third place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 15.68 seconds to earn a meet high 754 points. She also added a season best mark in the shot put at 10.42 meters.

The second and final day of action saw Hubbard post a long jump mark of 5.18 meters, giving her a first place finish and 609 points. The senior clocked in at 2:39.19 in the final event, the 800m run, giving her a new season best in the event.

Overall, Hubbard posted a top four finish in five of the seven events, while also recording over 600 points in three events. The senior ran the 200m in 27.19 seconds to close out the first day, giving her 696 points in the race.
