Men’s soccer preview: Forwards

Dominic Isadore giving a thumbs up

HANOVER, Ind. – With two weeks to go before the Hanover men’s soccer team kicks off its 2017 season, we begin our preview series for this year’s team with the forwards.

Coming off a record-setting season, sixth year head coach Matt Wilkerson and the 2017 team will look to build on that success this fall.

Although the team lost five Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference first team selections to graduation, the Panthers do return a first team pick at forward in senior Dominic Isadore (Cincinnati, Ohio). Isadore, a second team selection as a sophomore, started 17 times a year ago, and was third on the team with 13 points. The senior scored five goals and had three assists, including one game-winning goal.

Classmate Ryan Keeney (Rineyville, Ky.) is also back. The senior forward appeared in all 21 contests last year and made 15 starts. Keeney tied for fourth in points in 2016 with 10 on four goals and two assists. Of those four goals, two went for game-winners.

Junior Dean Mock (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Christopher Roe (Louisville, Ky.) will provide valuable depth at the forward position. Mock saw action in 15 matches, while Roe played in 12. Each scored a pair of goals in 2016 with both of Mock’s going for game-winners.

While the team lost a lot of talent to graduation, Hanover should be in good shape at forward. With a pair of seniors leading the way, the Panthers look to remain as one of the top teams in the HCAC.

Hanover will play its season-opener, and home-opener Friday, Sept. 1 against DePauw at 5 p.m. in Hanover, Ind. The next look in our men’s soccer preview series will feature the team’s defenders and goalkeepers.
