HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women’s tennis team will look to open their conference season strong as they travel to face Earlham at 11 a.m. this Saturday, September 16.

Their most recent match, the Georgetown (Ky.) Invitational, saw Hanover competing against two nationally ranked NAIA schools in Georgetown (Ky.) and Campbellsville (Ky.) and 2016-17 Division II Tournament qualifier, West Virginia State.

For the tournament, freshmen players Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.) and Addison Laker (Indianapolis, Ind.) recorded singles victories, with Parker recording a straight 6-4, 6-4 victory against host school Georgetown.

Also winning in singles action was junior Ruth Gaston (Indianapolis, Ind.) who won 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 8 singles flight. In doubles action, junior Susie Winternheimer (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore Megan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.) defeated Campbellsville, 7-5, in the No. 3 slot.

Their opponent, Earlham, has a 1-1 record for the season and like the Panthers are yet to start their conference slate. The last time the Panthers faced Earlham, during the 2016-17 season, Hanover swept 9-0, with all matches ending in straight sets, and six of them being shutouts.

In fact, since Earlham’s entrance into the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2010, Hanover boasts a 7-0 record against the Quakers, including four straight victories in which Hanover recorded a 9-0 win.

The Panthers will have a quick turnaround, however, as they will also host Bellarmine (Ky.) at 11 a.m. this Sunday, September 17. Last season, Bellarmine went 18-5 including a win in their last matchup versus Hanover, where they swept the Panthers 9-0.
