BOX SCORE

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Following a scoreless first half, the two teams combined for four second half goals, but it was the Hanover women’s soccer team that came out on top with a 3-1 win over Sewanee (Tenn.) Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers, which defeated Sewanee 3-2 in overtime at home a year ago, improve to 5-2-0 overall, while the Tigers, winners of two straight prior to today, fell to 2-4-1 overall.

Defense was the name of the game in the first half. Hanover had only four shots, but prevented Sewanee from taking any in the first 45 minutes of action and the score would remain scoreless at the break.

Things changed quickly in the second half as sophomore Brandi Brock (Cincinnati, Ohio) netted her first goal of the season in the 49th minute to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Classmate Kayla Nowlin (Harrison, Ohio) added to the lead in the 65th minute when the sophomore found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career to make it 2-0.

Almost 10 minutes later, it was Brock again beating the Sewanee goalkeeper for the second time to push the lead to 3-0.

The Tigers tried to rally with a goal in the 76th minute to cut the lead to 3-1, but it would not be enough as the match would end in two-goal victory for the visiting Panthers.

After only getting off four shots in the first half, Hanover out-shot Sewanee 11-5 in the second half and had nine corner kicks on the day to only three for the Tigers. Sophomore Emma Debolt (West Chester, Ohio) got the win in goal with two saves in three chances.

The Panthers will next travel to Columbus, Ohio Saturday, Sept. 23 for the team’s final regular season, non-conference match of the year against Capital (Ohio). Start time is set for 2 p.m. at Purmort Field.
