NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – A pair of upperclassmen highlighted play for the Hanover women’s golf team this past weekend at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Preview.

Senior Ellen Wuerch (Fortville, Ind.) and junior Sam Pease (Cincinnati, Ohio) each finished the 36-hole, two-day tournament with a score of 163. The duo tied for 14th in the field of 84 golfers.

Wuerch finished with rounds of 81 and 82, while tying for third in the field in par three scoring average at 3.00. The senior’s second round could not have gotten off to a better start, as she holed her opening tee shot on No. 4, recording her first ever hole-in-one.

Behind 18 pars in two rounds, Pease went 82 and 81 to earn the top 15 finish. The junior also posted a team-best par four scoring average of 4.56.

Adding top 25 finishes were sophomore Allison Goodwin (Lebanon, Ind.) and freshman Dayna Dale (Andrews, Ind.). Goodwin tied for 23rd with a total of 166 (84-82), while Dale finished with a score of 167 (86-81) for 25th place.

Rounding out the team scoring was sophomore Maddie Cody (Brownsburg, Ind.). Behind a second round 81, Cody finished in a tie for 28th overall.

Three other Panthers competed as individuals with senior Scarlett Hartlage (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) leading the way with a 169 (85-84). Hartlage’s total was good enough to tie for 27th place.

Hanover’s team score finished at 659 (333-326), placing them fifth in the field of 14 squads. The Panthers also placed third among HCAC teams, with the host Transylvania leading the way, placing third overall.

The University of Texas at Dallas won the team championship with a two-day score of 628 (314-314). Centre’s (Ky.) Alison Miller earned medalist honors after posting back-to-back rounds of 74 for a total of 148.

The Panthers will continue their preparation for the HCAC Championship in mid-October with the Earlham Invitational next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
