INVOLVEMENT

Hanover always has something going on – whether it be larger events like Homecoming in the Fall or something smaller like a theatre show in the Other Place or a recital in the Fitzgibbon Recital Hall, there is always a reason to come visit Hanover.

Athletics

With 16 number of men and women’s sports at Hanover, every season has a reason to cheer on the Panthers. Even if your student doesn’t participate in sports themselves, they will surely be in the stands cheering on their fellow classmates so why not join them? She has worked with students for over twenty years and is happy to answer any questions you may have about your student’s time at Hanover.

The Hanover College Parents’ Advisory Board is comprised of parents from each class of Hanover College students. the primary role of the Parents’ Advisory Board is to work in partnership with the Hanover College staff to provide advocacy, support and connection to HC parents/guardians and family members.

SAFETY & SECURITY

Emergency Procedures

We review our campus emergency action plan annually, and afterwards distribute these procedures to key personnel throughout the campus. This plan includes a rapid response to secure all buildings, a notification process to the campus community about the current situation via our Emergency Alert system and a list of duties for all personnel in Campus Security and Student Life. These plans were created in consultation with local and state authorities and their support will remain an important part of our management of any emergency.

Sexual Assault PreventionThe number one priority of the Hanover College Campus Safety Department is the safety, security and well-being of the students, faculty, staff and guests.It is the policy of Hanover College to comply with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits discrimination (including sexual harassment and sexual violence) based on sex in the College’s educational programs and activities. Title IX also prohibits retaliation for asserting or otherwise participating in claims of sex discrimination.

Members of the Hanover College community, guests and visitors have the right to be free from all forms of sex/gender harassment, discrimination and misconduct, examples of which can include acts of sexual violence, sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. All members of the campus community are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that does not infringe upon the rights of others. The College believes in zero tolerance for sex/gender-based misconduct. HANOVERISMS

As a parent of a Hanover students, there are and will be certain acronyms or phrases that you may hear – whether it be on campus or from your student.

“That’s the Beauty of Hanover” – Hanover’s signature slogan to describe not only the majesty of its natural scenery, but the memories and experiences forged here.

The Point – Most generally, the part of campus that overlooks the Ohio River. More specifically, the outcropping right outside the doors of Hendrick’s Hall that serves as a lookout point to see the three bends in the river.

BCC / CC – The Brown Campus Center, the main campus building at Hanover and the location of dining services, the Office of Student Life, the Mailroom, the Office of Multicultural Affairs & the Hanover Bookstore.

WAC – The Withrow Activities Center, the main campus student space outside of the dormitories. Previously the campus swimming pool, the Withrow Center is now a place for students to play pool, watch movies, see different on-campus events and just generally socialize.

UG – The Underground, the name of the secondary eatery at Hanover. It it on the lower floor of the Campus Center (beneath the cafeteria upstairs) and has named the “Underground” to reflect its placement.

HAQ – The Haq (pronounced “huck”) Multicultural Center is a space for cultural expression and camaraderie. This is also the location of the Office of Multicultural Affairs and has been known to host many events throughout the school year.

SCC – The Science Center, Hanover’s academic science building. This building is where your student will take a majority of their classes if they choose to pursuit a science major at Hanover, but many other classes also take place here such as those of anthropology, international studies and foreign language.

LC – The Gladish Learning Center, located in back of the Duggan Library, this space serves as a the home of the tutoring services offered at Hanover. Open five days a week (Sun-Thurs), Hanover students can receive free academic tutoring in virtually every subject.

KP – Katherine Parker Hall, this is one of the first year residence halls. Historically co-ed, there is a chance that your student will call this place home in their years at Hanover.

ADPi – Alpha Delta Pi sorority, one of the four women’s Greek organizations on Hanover’s campus.

Chi-O – Chi Omega women’s fraternity, one of the four women’s Greek organizations on Hanover’s campus.

Phi Mu – Phi Mu women’s fraternity, one of the four women’s Greek organizations on Hanover’s campus.

Theta – Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, one of the four women’s Greek organizations on Hanover’s campus.

Fiji – Phi Gamma Delta, one of the four men’s Greek organization on Hanover’s campus.

Lambda – Lambda Chi Alpha, one of the four men’s Greek organization on Hanover’s campus.

Q: Is there an organization for Hanover parents?
A: The Hanover College Parents’ Association is comprised of parents of Hanover College students. You are considered a member simply by having a student attending the college in good standing. The Parents’ Board is the executive body of the Hanover Parents’ Association. This appointed group provides leadership in volunteer, social, advisory and fundraising events/programs.

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

Hanover College strives to offer as many resources as it can to student to achieve educational success. Academic success can be found in a variety of ways and through different avenues. By working with each student, Hanover hopes to ensure all students receive the support they need.

The Gladish Learning Center serves as the home of tutoring services at Hanover College. Open five days a week (Sunday – Thursday) from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. to all Hanover students requesting assistance in any subject offered at the college. 1:1 appointments are also available at different times outside of the open hours schedule. Additionally, different study groups are offered for classes such as math and introduction to chemistry and biology. The Gladish Learning Center is located within the Duggan Library.

Advising Information

Each Hanover student will have an academic advisor that will help them plan out their class schedules and what major is right for them. Students will begin their first year with an advisor that teaches First Year 101 and will transition into a different faculty member once they declare their major. Their major advisor is the choice of the student and will be a faculty member within their major educational department.

Accessibility Services

We believe that all members of our student body deserve equal access to our vibrant intellectual community, both inside and outside the classroom. Through our accessibility services program, we work one-on-one with students, their families, faculty, and staff to develop reasonable and effective accommodations that assist the student and protect the integrity of the academic program.

Academic Programs

Outside of traditional major programs, Hanover College offers several academic programs that require more specific class requirements or outside involvement. These programs offer students exciting and enriching opportunities to pursue and push them forward in their academic and professional careers. These programs include the Business Scholar Program (BSP),the Health Sciences Program (HSP) and Hanover’s newest program – Engineering.

Levett Career Center

Career guidance is beneficial at the beginning, middle and end of a student’s time at Hanover College. The Levett Career Center, located in Hendricks Hall (behind Classic Hall), offers students 1:1 career counseling, advice on cover letters and resumes as well as mock interviews and various programs offered throughout the academic year.

Registrar’s Office

The Registrar’s Office connects students and alumni with their academic lives at Hanover College by facilitating registration for classes, declaration of a major, ordering of transcripts and enrollment verification letters as well as advising services. Also, The Office of the Registrar helps verify transferring of credit from another school or program.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

Hanover College takes the health and wellness of its students extremely seriously. These ideas take many forms from clinical treatment to general wellness in regards to eating right and exercising regularly. We offer a variety of services to cater to students and help put their health in a place where they can get the most out of their educational experience. Hanover is happy to offer physical health services in their Health Services Office as well as mental health services in their Counseling Services office. Additionally, the Horner Center is our on campus gymnasium, offering fitness machines, equipment rentals, an open gym, and wellness classes.

The HAQ Center for Cross-Cultural Education, is dedicated to the memory of two beloved teachers who advanced the mutual respect of citizens of different countries and backgrounds.
