“Hanover itself does have a history; it was founded by John Finley Crowe, a Presbyterian minister. This was supposed to be a training ground for theological studies. He was also an abolitionist, very anti-slavery, and was run out of Kentucky for that purpose. And our dedication now to service and social justice reflects that legacy. The fact that we have an LGBTQ+ Center and we want to be welcoming and inclusive reflects that legacy. Even if we’re not articulating it in strictly religious terms, those are things that come out of a faith conviction. And I think it’s important to highlight that whenever we have the opportunity to do so. It’s about finding that history and letting it exist; and letting students know we’re here to help you and explore together.”
