Bill Tereshko
Professor of Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology
What drew you to Hanover College?
I was finishing graduate school and did not know what I was going to do when the academic dean at Hanover called my advisor looking for someone who could teach anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and coach football. My advisor told me I should apply and 10 days later I got the job. I planned to move on after two to three years and am now finishing my 40th year.
What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is probably my office in the Science Center. Not only do I have a great people-watching view outside my window, I also have students stop by my office between classes to visit or get a cup of coffee from my Keurig. I really enjoy having them hang out there.
What advice do you have for current students?
I would advise students to find their passion. I am passionate about my students. Because of that, I don’t feel like I am going to work. L.A. Reid once said, “Find your passion and it’s no longer work.” That’s how I feel, and I would advise students to find something they are passionate about and follow that passion.
How would you sum up your time at Hanover College?
I have served under four college presidents, seven academic deans, and three athletic directors in my 40 years here. There have been 13 new buildings built and renovations to almost all the existing buildings on campus during that time. With all those changes, there are three important things that haven’t changed. Even though the faces have changed, we have always had these three things: 1. We have always had some outstanding students. 2. We have always had some amazing professors. 3. There are some lifelong relationships between the two. These relationships are what I think make Hanover a great place. A place where someone can work for 40 years.
What’s something you’re excited for in the future?
I am excited to retire, although I will miss the students. My wife retired three years ago, so I am looking forward to traveling with her in our retirement. We have a couple of granddaughters and I am looking forward to spending more time with them in retirement as well. I think students would be surprised to know that I love cooking and baking, and that I have taken some calligraphy lessons and plan on doing calligraphy when I retire.
