What drew you to Hanover College?

The Doctor of Physical Therapy program was hybrid and accelerated. I can stay at home while I study and finish a year sooner. Enough said.

What’s something you’re excited for in the future?

A paycheck!

What has been the most valuable aspect of this program to you?

The musculoskeletal lab series was definitely my favorite. I really enjoy learning manual therapy.

What advice do you have for people considering this program?

This program had semesters that were brutally hard. Make sure you have a strong support network at home. My wife provided invaluable support through this program. Flashcards. Flashcards. Flashcards. Random order.

How did the program prepare you for the board exam?

I learned everything I needed through the coursework. The Final Frontier course was phenomenal. Final Frontier was able to break down complex ideas into easily memorized bits of info.

How did the faculty assist you with your preparation for the board exam?

Faculty members were always available when I had questions. The after-class office hours were very helpful when I needed clarification. The guided learning questions (GLQ) in each module were mostly helpful. I frequently used the GLQ as a study guide.

How did you prepare for the exam?

Spaced repetition with flashcards. I used the practice exam and assessment tool (PEAT) diagnostically to see where I was weak. I took the PEAT a total of 5 times. I was consistent with the Final Frontier course and used True Learn as well. I have a ridiculous amount of flashcards. Every time I learned a new concept that I thought was quizzable, or if I knew I would have a hard time remembering, I would make a flashcard out of it. Every practice test I took, I reviewed the questions I got wrong and made a flashcard. I committed to doing at least 30 minutes of flashcards a day, though it was usually more. While practicing my flashcards, each one I got wrong I set to the left. Each one I got right I set to the right. I would continue until I had 4 to 5 wrong then I would throw them back on top of the stack. I repeated this for days at a time to get spaced repetition and force active recall. I would also mix up the order for randomization too.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

Han Solo definitely shot first.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re in town for labs?

Hangout with my classmates. Discuss the latest conspiracy theories between flashcards.

Any other comments about your Hanover DPT experience?

The program gave me everything I needed to pass. Final Frontier was phenomenally helpful. I would be completely remiss to not mention my wife. She took on a lot of responsibility to allow me to study. She is absolutely crucial to my success. Having a strong support network was hugely beneficial throughout the program. I was only able to study as much as I did, because my wife picked up the slack.
