Negrón to lead conversation about trust-building, unlocking team potential

Monica Negrón, head coach of the Puerto Rican senior women’s national lacrosse team, will be the featured guest as part of Hanover College’s celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month.

Negrón will participate in “The Shared Playbook: Building Inclusive Teams,” a fireside chat that will examine how teams build genuine trust, celebrate cultural pride and unlock peak performance needed to win; what it looks like to truly have a teammate’s back; and how to build teams where every student and athlete is valued for who they are.

The conversation will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the Haq Center for Cross-Cultural Education in the J. Graham Brown Campus Center. Admission is free.

Negrón, a native of Bel Air, Md., was a four-year letterwinner, three-year captain and four-time all-region honoree on the University of Louisville’s lacrosse team. She capped her collegiate playing career in 2014 as an all-American and the Big East Conference’s defensive player of the year. That season, she helped lead Louisville to the Big East title and a berth in the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament.

In 2022, Negrón was team captain for the Puerto Rico Senior Women’s National Team, which placed 11th in its first world championship appearance. She later joined Puerto Rico’s coaching staff, serving as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the U-20 women’s national team that finished fifth in the 2024 U-20 World Championships in Hong Kong. Most recently, as head coach of the senior women’s national team, she led the squad to eighth-place finish at the 2026 World Championships in Tokyo.

Negrón currently works at the University of Louisville, leading the marketing efforts for one of the centers on campus. She is also the owner and director of the Cardinal Elite Lacrosse Academy.
