If you happen to be at the University of Oregon this summer, you may run into Jacob Odulio ’19. He says of his REU experience, “I work with Dr. Michael Haley doing organic synthesis of Phosphorous-Nitrogen Heterocycles. These compounds are rarely found in literature due to instability, and our research is some of the first to make these scaffolds while maintaining stability. My group is working on synthesizing a family of these compounds and measuring their fluorescent properties via photo-physical characterization. Besides being in the lovely state of Oregon, I love hearing about different group's research every week! Working with fluorescent compounds is also fun because they fluoresce in different colors under a UV lamp.” Enjoy the rest of your summer, Jacob! 🔬 #thatsthebeautyofHanover #Hanover2019 #HanoverCollege

Austin Stark '19 and Blake Phillips '19 have been interning with Mad Paddle Brewery in Madison, Indiana. As marketing and sales interns, this duo handles day to day entrepreneurial endeavors within the brewery.Austin says, “My favorite part about working for Mad Paddle Brewery is being able to see a business grow from the ground up, learning all the pieces that go into starting a business and learning how to deal with roadblocks as they pop up. With MPB being such a young company, we were able to have a say in the brewery's name, logos, slogans, hashtags, and the brand’s story.” Blake says, “I enjoy the process of troubleshooting and figuring out how to solve these problems we encounter. This type of responsibility is very valuable to learn when starting your own business because you never know what direction you will be sent in on any given day.” #hanovercollege

Bric Butler ‘19 is interning jointly with two local organizations this summer, River Valley Resources, Inc. and Envision Jefferson County. At Envision, he focuses on economic development and is working on gathering economic and business data from various Indiana cities on their implementation of riverfront development district legislation and the positive impacts that Madison could receive from their own. At River Valley, he aides in workforce and community development, assisting in record keeping and implementation of governmental programs like the national Summer Meals for Kids program. Bric says, “As a student studying economics and politics I love working in economic/workforce development because of the collaboration between the business community and government that it often involves, both of which I am very passionate about.” 👤 #hanover2019 #thatsthebeautyofHanover #HanoverCollege
