Panthers break three records in Rivalry Meet

Three school records paced the Hanover College men's and women's track & field teams in the inaugural Rivalry Meet against Franklin College. The meet was held Saturday, March 16, at L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.

The meet, Hanover’s outdoor opener, featured several non-traditional events and relays, including a coed distance-medley and relay scoring for field events.

The women’s 4x100-meter-relay team of Jordan Moseby (Indianapolis, Ind.), Lexi Vincz (Greenfield, Ind.), Khrystal Nugent (Lake Village, Ind.), and Briahna Chambers (Bell, Texas) took close to half a second off their own school record set in 2012. The squad ran 50.51 seconds to win the event.

Minutes later, Moseby won the 100-meter hurdles in a school-record time of 15.36 seconds. Moseby’s time topped Rachel Logar’s 2010 record of 15.39. The sophomore's time currently ranks among the top 10 in the country.

Freshman Rachel Callahan (Guilford, Ind.) and Vincz swept the scoring in the event, running 16.19 and 16.25 seconds respectively.

Vincz also won the 400-meter-hurdles. The Hanover record–holder finished in 1:06.26. This time currently ranks in the top 15 in the nation.

Freshman thrower Ashlee Arbaugh (Van Buren, Ohio) won the hammer throw with a 40.08-meter toss.

Arbaugh also finished second in shot put with a school-record heave of 11.67-meters. Arbaugh passed Angie Rubenstein’s 1998 toss of 10.46-meters and ranks in the top fifteen throws in the country.

Sophomore high jumper Frannie Larson (Lagrange, Ky.) and freshman Holli Leslie (Indianapolis, Ind.) each topped 1.52 meters to finish first and second in the high jump.

Leslie took top honors in the triple jump with a 10.35-meter leap, marking the third-best effort in school history. Junior Careen Turner (Owensboro, Ky.) finished runner-up with a 9.90-meter leap.

Turner finished third in javelin with a 26.69-meter throw, while classmate Janet Schnurr (Lexington, Ky.) won the event with a 29.30-meter toss.

Chambers and Nugent teamed up to finish first and second in the long jump. Chambers leapt 5.09 meters, while Nugent reached 4.80 meters.

Junior thrower Al Moreland (Lawton, Mich.) sparked Hanover's men’s team, winning the javelin throw with a career-best 51.42-meter toss.

Moreland also threw a personal best 37.39-meters in the hammer throw to finish second.

Freshman distance runner Ben Franke (Seymour, Ind.) placed second in the 3000-meter run, running 9:20.41.

The men’s 800-meter sprint medley of Kris Jenkins (Louisville, Ky.), Tyler Arceneaux (Akron, Ind.), Jack Schoening (Noblesville, Ind.), and Andy Orem ran 1:35.21 to win the event.

The quartet finished second in the 4x100-meter relay, running 43.54 seconds to just miss the 2006 school record of 43.46.

Hanover also won the coed mixed-distance relay. The squad of Brendan Kelly (Indianapolis, Ind.), Rachel Slade (Cincinnati, Ohio), Richie Sellers (Noblesville, Ind.) and Mackenzie Dye (New Castle, Ind.) teamed to win the event in 11:56.37.
