Local youth have an opportunity to learn the German language this fall through a unique Hanover College program.

SPARK for German, a joint project of the American Association of Teachers of German and the Goethe-Institut, is teaming with Hanover to provide free after-school German classes for kindergarten through high school students in the Hanover/Madison area.

The series of 10 classes will begin the week of Sept. 12-16. Each of the classes will be taught by Hanover’s German students and held at locations within the community and on campus.

An introductory celebration for Hanover’s SPARK for German Program will be held from 2-5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, at the J. Graham Brown Campus Center. Area elementary, middle and high school teachers and staff are encouraged to attend, along with students, families and friends. The celebration will feature games, songs and activities that will be used in the classes.
