The Hanover College Theatre Department’s 2024-25 season, titled “Lost/Found: A Season of Stories about Searching for Self,” will offer three distinct plays with central characters who, through purpose, love and self-discovery, “find” themselves.

The series will open Dec. 6-8 with “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play.” This reimagined American holiday classic brings George Bailey’s famed Christmas Eve dilemma to the stage as a vintage live radio broadcast. Bedford Falls will come to life through holiday music and cheer, live sound-effects and an ensemble cast of more than three dozen characters.

Hanover’s presentation, adapted by Joe Landry from Philip Van Doren Stern’s famed tale, “The Greatest Gift,” will be directed by Gabriel Vanover, associate professor of theatre and department chair.

The screwball romantic comedy “The Cottage” will make its campus debut Feb. 14-16. A potentially murderous web of secrets unravels after unsuspecting partners are exposed to a love affair in this work by American playwright Sandy Rustin. “The Cottage,” which debuted on Broadway in 2023, delves into the true meaning of love, marriage, fate and faith.

Theatre returns to its main elements – a performer, a character and a story – with the College’s presentation of “Extreme Exposure: Solo Characters in the Spotlight” April 4-6, 2025. The production weaves a collection of individual performances from the past century into an enthralling exploration of life, laughter, love and loss. Jennifer Schmidt, assistant professor of theatre whose research focuses on solo performance, will direct this unique production.

All performances will be staged in The Other Place, adjacent to Donner Residence Hall. Friday and Saturday evening performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinees will start at 2 p.m. Note: “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” will also be presented at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7.

Admission is free, though tickets are required for entry. Ticket reservations will be available online two weeks before each production is scheduled to begin its performances.
