Educator, author and activist Alison Kafer, Ph.D., will be the featured speaker for The Bill and June Rogers Peace and Social Justice Speakers Series during a two-day visit to the Hanover College campus in March.

A specialist in disability, feminist and queer theory, Kafer is an associate professor of feminist studies and director of LGBTQ studies at the University of Texas at Austin College of Liberal Arts. She is the author of the 2013 book “Feminist, Queer, Crip.” Her writings have also appeared in several publications, including Disability Studies Quarterly, Feminist Disability Studies, Journal of Literary and Cultural Disability Studies, Sex and Disability, and South Atlantic Quarterly.

Kafer will present “Building a Coalition” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, in the Ogle Center. She will examine how political and relational framings of disability can enhance coalitional possibilities.

In addition, Kafer will conduct “Ableism and Reproductive Justice” at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, March 13, in the Duggan Library. She will explore how a focus on reproductive ableism and a disability lens can reshape current conversations about reproductive health, rights and justice.

Both events are open to the public, free of charge.
