Dionicio Sierra Visoso ’21

Dionicio Sierra Visoso ’21 is ready for the fun that May Term brings to any Hanover College student.

A double major in secondary education and Spanish, Sierra Visoso has spent the last few months student teaching. He is excited to be back on campus full-time, playing the outdoor games May Term has to offer, working once again as a student ambassador, and of course, graduating at the end of the month.

Looking back at his journey, a tour of the campus changed everything: “Originally, I wanted to stay home and commute to [a local university], but those plans changed when I toured Hanover. I liked the small class sizes and how close the community was, and I also knew I wanted to continue with athletics in college. Hanover ended up being a great combination of a small community, where I could focus on academics and also have the opportunity to participate in sports.”

A track and field athlete, student ambassador for the Office of Admission, brother of Sigma Chi fraternity, Sierra Visoso states that being a part of extracurriculars and getting opportunities to lead on campus has prepared him for life after graduation.

Coming to Hanover from Westfield, Ind., Sierra Visoso attributes his academic and athletic successes to his friends. He says, “Whether it be academics or athletics, they always push me to better myself. And also, the professors. They will do anything they can to make sure you succeed and are prepared for life after Hanover.”

As the bittersweet weeks dwindle, he is preparing to spend as much time as possible with his Sigma Chi brothers. Then, Sierra Visoso will head home to teach with the future goal of obtaining his master’s degree.

“Something I take pride in would be, just having the opportunity to be here Hanover as a under-represented student who was born in Mexico and being a role model for my younger siblings, Elizabeth, Armando and Leo. And also, being the first person in my family to attend and graduate from college.”
