Theatre department to present Agatha Christie classic “The Mousetrap”

The Mousetrap Agatha Christie's Murderous Masterpiece

The Hanover College Theatre will stage an intimate presentation of famed author Agatha Christie’s legendary murder mystery “The Mousetrap,” Friday-Sunday, Oct. 15-17.

“The Mousetrap” stands as the world’s longest continuously running play, logging more than 27,000 performances from its London West-end premiere in 1952 until the COVID-19 pandemic ended its run in 2020.

Christie’s classic weaves the captivating tale of seven strangers who, following the murder of a local woman, are stranded at Monkswell Manor during a snowstorm. A police detective arrives at the stately guesthouse and reveals that one person within the group is a killer. As the officer interrogates each suspect, the shady characters one-by-one reveal their sordid pasts.

Members of the eclectic group grow increasingly suspicious of one another. When a second murder takes place, tensions and fears escalate. Which person is the murderer? Who will be their next victim?

Hanover’s unique performance of “The Mousetrap” will be presented “in the round” at The Other Place, located between Donner Hall and Ide Hall. The production features an all-student cast and is directed by Gabriel Vanover, assistant professor of theatre.

The Oct. 15-16 performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Oct. 17 presentation will start at 2 p.m.

Limited seating is available. General admission tickets are free, however, patrons are encouraged to reserve seats online in advance. Tickets may be printed or scanned upon entry from a barcode on a mobile phone.
