Washington, D.C., pundits to share insights into 2024 presidential election
Noted political pundits and television news contributors Richard Lowry and Bakari Sellers, joined by award-winning author and journalist Jonathan Rauch, will offer their insights into the 2024 U.S. presidential election during a special presentation of the Hanover Enrichment Series.
Lowry is the editor-in-chief of National Review, best-selling author, syndicated writer, and television and radio commentator. Sellers, a former Democratic state legislator, is an attorney, best-selling author, civil rights activist and entrepreneur. Rauch is an award-winning writer and senior fellow in government studies at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
Lowry, Sellers and Rauch will participate in “The 2024 Presidential Election: A Unique Chapter in American History,” a moderated conversation, Thursday, Oct. 17, in Fitzgibbon Recital Hall, Lynn Center for Fine Arts.
The event, which begins at 7 p.m., is open to the public, free of charge. Registration is required to monitor available seating.


Lowry joined the National Review staff as a writer in 1992 and moved to Washington D.C. in 1994 to cover Congress. He was named editor in 1999, being hand-picked by founder William F. Buckley Jr., and transitioned to editor-in-chief in 2021.
He authors a syndicated column for King Features and weekly columns for Politico. His opinion pieces have also appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post and Wall Street Journal, among others. He is the author of four books, including the 2003 New York Times best-seller “Legacy: Paying the Price for the Clinton Years,” and “The Case for Nationalism: How It Made Us Powerful, United, and Free,” published in 2019.
Lowry is a political contributor on television programs including “Meet the Press,” “This Week” and “Fox News Sunday” and makes regular appearances “The Kelly File” and “Hannity.”

Sellers is a former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives. He became the nation’s youngest elected Black official when he won the 90th district seat at age 22 and served from 2006-14. In 2010, he was featured among Time Magazine’s “40 Under 40” and, in 2014, conducted an unsuccessful campaign to become the Palmetto State’s lieutenant governor.
A New York Times best-selling author, Sellers published his memoir, “My Vanishing Country,” in 2020. He followed with “Who Are Your People?” in 2022 and “The Moment” earlier this spring. He is currently the host of “The Bakari Sellers Podcast” and has served as a political contributor to CNN since 2015.
Sellers has also worked as an attorney with Strom Law Firm, LLC, since 2007, where he leads the firm’s strategic communication and diversity, equity and inclusion consulting practice.

Rauch, who delivered a thought-provoking address at Hanover last fall, will serve as moderator. He is a contributing writer to The Atlantic and the author of numerous books and articles about government, public policy and culture. In addition, he has appeared on television and radio programs including “Meet the Press” and “NewsHour.”
A recipient of the National Magazine Award and National Headliner Award, Rauch’s column, “Social Studies,” appeared in the National Journal from 1998-2010. He has also written for Fortune, U.S. News & World Report, The Wall Street Journal and The Chronicle of Higher Education, among others.
Rauch’s books include “The Constitution of Knowledge: A Defense of Truth,” “Kindly Inquisitors: The New Attacks on Free Thought,” “Government’s End: Why Washington Stopped Working” and “Political Realism: How Hacks, Machines, Big Money, and Back-Room Deals Can Strengthen American Democracy.”
The Hanover Enrichment Series, presented by Tricia and Will Hagenah, has brought a wide variety of entertainment and thought-provoking speakers to the local community for more than 70 years. “The 2024 Presidential Election: A Unique Chapter in American History,” is supported by Building Bridges, a Council of Independent Colleges-supported campus initiative to foster respectful and empathetic dialogue and develop more responsible, engaged and effective citizenship.
